Artist - Edward Jones - Wood Carver

Edward Richard Jones is an artist who works with wood, sterling silver, copper and brass.

After a stint in the Navy, Ed began college. There, he studied metal smiting and jewelry design. He became interested in 3D sculpture after having to design and make a piece for a class. Ed’s work in college was mostly in metal.

He taught adult education courses on sterling silver Jewelry making at Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island. He also worked as a jewelry designer for three years, but felt that working as a designer was draining his creativity. As a designer he had to change his designs to fit the manufacturing cost. He took the next 10 years to decide if he wanted to continue to make art and if so, what form?

Ed started working with wood mostly because it's the material he had on hand. The more he worked with wood the more he liked it and the more things he learned to do with it. He has been working with wood for the past 15 years.

Says Ed, “My wife asked me to make her a few sterling silver bracelets, so for the past few months, I've been working in silver, brass and copper. It's been good to work in metals, but wood is what I really enjoy working with.”
